Giraffe
Our giraffe enclosure is currently home to four females: Swadi, Tana, Arusha, and Jara. All the females, except Jara, have already given birth several times. The animals have access to a large giraffe house with a day room, sleeping area, mothers' box, and bull's box. Since many giraffes currently live in European zoos and releasing them into the wild is logistically impossible, Jaderpark has decided against breeding them at this time and therefore does not keep a bull.
Visitors can observe the animals in the house through a large window. In good weather, the herd can access the 4-hectare "Africa" area via a separate enclosure. Here, they live alongside antelopes and zebras.
Besides fresh leaves, the animals' diet consists of succulent fodder (carrots, leeks, beets, etc.). Alfalfa hay and dried raspberry leaves serve as a substitute for leaves. Keeping giraffes is very expensive due to high feed and energy costs.
Our animals are part of a conservation program that is dedicated to preserving endangered species (European Endangered Species Programme = EEP)
