Kibibi (born in 2008) is our lioness and has lived at Jaderpark since 2022, where she has found a peaceful and protected place to spend her retirement. Since there are a sufficient number of lions in the zoo and consequently no need for cubs, Jaderpark does not breed its own lions and cares for animals that cannot be integrated into a pride. Currently, Kibibi lives alone in the enclosure. At this stage of her life, it is not easy to find a suitable companion, as gender, age, and temperament must be compatible. Individual care is therefore all the more important to us: Kibibi is visited and cared for daily by our team and is attentive, relaxed, and in good health. Our spacious outdoor enclosure, covering approximately 1,100 square meters, offers her various retreats, elevated resting areas, climbing and scratching opportunities, as well as a constant stream of new enrichment activities such as food caches and toys. Several heated sleeping boxes also ensure comfort and tranquility indoors. A lion like Kibibi needs about 4 kg of human-grade meat daily; Saturdays are fasting days. All access points to the enclosure and the dens (doors, sliding doors) are secured with two independent systems. Only zookeepers with special safety training and a passed exam are allowed to work in the predator area.
